Whose Planet Is It Anyway?

Welcome to our first global posting.

It is an amazing thing about our world.

But, before we make our point let us do a bit of math.

1) The world is populated by approximately 6 billion (plus or minus) people = 6,000,000,000.

2) There are 195 countries in the world. (This total comprises 193 countries that are member states of the United Nations and 2 countries that are non-member observer states: the Holy See and the State of Palestine.)

3) Let us be generous and say each country has 3000 political leaders (PLs), senior bureaucrats (SBs) with influence and military leaders (MLs). So that total equals 195 x 3000 = 585,000 PLs, SBs. MLs.

If we take away the PLs SBs and MLs from the general population we are left with (6,000,000,000-585,000) 5,999,415,000 people who just want to live their lives, work at their chosen professions, raise their kids and generally live a comfortable life in peace and tranquility.

So here is what we find amazing.

How and why do 5.99 Billion people allow 595 thousand PLs, SBs. MLs to constantly disrupt, create chaos and threaten as well as enact wars that kill tens of thousands of innocent women, children and men, as well as, implement dangerous climate affecting, world damaging actions that threaten to destroy up to two thirds (2/3rds) of the world population?

That is a ratio of (5,999,415,000 / 585,000) 10,255 to 1.

It does not make any sense that 1 person can threaten to harm and even make and implement plans that will harm and even kill 10,083 people and the 10,255 people can not do anything about it.

This writer can only think of three reasons and I'm sure there are many more for this but here are my three.

1) The general population of the world is not organized enough to speak about what they want from their leaders and the PLs, SBs and MLs are taking advantage of that fact and are representing their own self interests ahead of those whom they are supposedly representing.

2) The general population of people are in a state of apathy and just not interested enough or concerned enough or are too frightened of their leaders to take any steps or make changes that will affect their current life circumstances. They are even willing to let the PLs, SBs, and MLs threaten the lives and futures of their children.

3) There is an extremely high level of incompetence and apathy amongst the PLs, SBs, and MLs, driven by hubris, an absence of accountability and general sense of secure superiority over the people they represent. All of which foster a hesitation to implement changes to the existing status quo.

Now this is what I'm thinking.

If the general population of the world really wanted to change the state of the world it can be done. But first the general population must be willing to agree and communicate on what kind of global society they want. Second they must agree on the kind of economic structure that is best for the long term stability of the planet and its people. Third and most importantly they must begin to demand better representation from their leaders. Representation that includes international cooperation on world encompassing issues such as; what kind of economic structure is best for the long term well being of the planet, matters related to climate and ocean changes, perhaps a common language that would give every human being a sense of world citizenship. Or the people could just start demanding by asking for and expecting better representation from the PLs, SBs and MLs. to change the global agenda from avoiding war to establishing peace and change the economics frame of the world from economic growth (which if given full thought leads to mutual destruction) to a more conducive economy that builds up the human civilization and natural environment rather than consuming and destroying it.

With a ratio of 10,255:1 my bet is "the people of the world' will get what they want.
