GLOBAL TRANSPORTATION The thread in the fabric of human society |
||||
If Commerce is the heart of the world's economy then transportation is it's blood stream. Transportation in its many forms carries all the vital incredients to keep the worlds economic systems alive. The worlds global transportation systems have overcome most, if not all, the barriers that made life difficult for societies of the past. Goods and services today travel across oceans, they travel through the air, over and under mountains, over and under rivers, they cross oceans and even into outer space as commonly as people walk to the local store. Because the worlds transportation systems have become so sophisticated and efficient goods made in any part of the world can be purchased in any other part of the world and delivered to the address specified within a few days, the only barriers to this miraculous system are man made (political) barriers. Ships, trains, vans, large trucks, aircraft, space vehicles, bicycles, and small motorized vehicles of every kind imaginable shape and size can now do the work that was once done by human or animal power. These tools can travel great distances, carry unimaginably large loads and traverse terrain once thought impossible at speeds difficult to conceive. People can now travel from one part of the world to any other part of the world in a matter of a few short days at speeds exceeding 600 miles (1000 Kms) per hour in relative comfort and safety. All of this has been accomplished in less than 125 years. It is the transportation industry that brought the human race into the era of a single world and revolutionized how the various races of peoples and cultures interact and mingle as a single human race. The transportation industry is the vital instrument that links all the peoples of the world and by extention makes all of our lives more interesting and exciting. In this section you will find links to interesting companies that are part of this industry doing much of the invisible work of moving goods and services while meeting the challenges of todays very complex world. Enjoy. |
