AFRICA

Is one of the brightest spots on the world's economic horizon.
Long gone are the days of the undiscovered continent. Today very little of the continent is unknown. What is still to be discovered is in the ground and on the ground. Mineral resource projects driven by voracious appetites
in the technology and industrial sectors of Asia have companies seeking and discovering sources in once extremely remote places such as the

Democratic Republic of Congo, . One of the major influences of this economic boom is the demise of colonialism and the diminishing influence of warring fractions trying to control the wealth and opportunities for a small elite class of opportunists. Also it could be the diminishing tolerance for corruption amongst bureaucrats and politicians that has opened the door for more patriotic attitudes and a desire by local and national governments to generate and keep the latent wealth

within the boarders of their countries.
Today it is easy to find major mining companies such as BHP Biliton, Rio Tinto, Zinjin Mining Group investing billions of dollars throughout the continent

The following are important industries Asia.

Forestry:
Is an important but threatened industry in a select group of Asian countries. China, Indonesia, and Malaysia make up more than half of the forested lands in Asia. China is a major exporter of wood products, ranking first globally in wood-based panel production, paper, and wood furniture. During the past 10 years,Asia has increased its forest cover by 30 million hectares (74 million acres) to create forest plantations where trees can be intensively managed for higher-yield production. The timber industry estimates that Asia will produce roughly 45 percent of wood from forest plantations by 2020. These plantations will become increasingly important as natural forest resources continue to be depleted. (Source National Geographic)

Fisheries:

Asia represents the most important region for fisheries and aquaculture production in the world. Aquaculture is the rearing of

ENERGY

Energy is the most important commodity in the world today and demand is growing. This single fact is the best indicator that economies are working.
If we know how to extract, transport and deliver energy why are we having so much conflict and concern about it?
Do we, as a civilization, need to have representatives from all the stakeholder groups sit down and honestly identify the barriers and failures that prevent us collectively from delivering this vital resource responsibly and abundantly for everyones benefit?
If its not the supply nor the technology then what?
Is it the administration and support systems that are failing?

fish and other aquatic animals in controlled environments. In 2008, Asia’s marine fishing areas produced roughly 50 percent of the global fish capture. Six of the top 10 world producers of fish are found in Asia: China, Indonesia, Japan, India,

Philippines, and Myanmar (Burma). Asia also produced about 90 percent of the world’s aquaculture-raised fish in 2008.
Mining and Drilling:
Extractive activities are an important part of the economies of many Asian countries. China, India, Russia, and Indonesia are the continent’s most productive mining economie
s. Countries on the Arabian Peninsula have the world’s largest deposits of oil and natural gas. These fossil fuels are drilled for energy and fuel, and make the region one of the most important in the international economy.
