Unity of values  (Part One)

Some people might think the current global situation is a coincidental assortment of social and economic disasters that are unrelated but occurring simultaneously. Others may consider them a related series of events similar to a line of tipping dominoes. One issue after another toppling over and causing the orderly organization of civilization to collapse.  People in societies directly affected by these upheavals and collapses suffer significant and catastrophic impacts. For the casual observer in non-affected societies these are concerning occurrences requiring attention but seemingly have no significant consequence for themselves other than possible minor inconveniences.

Unfortunately for the casual observer, this perception of distance and separation is a mirage. A false vision of security that will in time evaporate if the root causes of the issues are not addressed and corrected elsewhere, then the current casual observer will eventually be subjected to these upheavels.

All societies today were built on foundations of outdated systems of rules and order. Systems that suited the advancement of segregated societies separated by distance, limited forms of communication and cultural tradition. Those foundations are no longer reliable. Now with advancements in technology, telecommunications and travel, a net has been cast over every human being and it is slowly being drawn in, bringing us all closer together and the forces affecting one group is applying pressure on all who are caught in the net.

Right now there is distance between us but as the net grows tighter it will become more uncomfortable and the pressure felt by those at the outer edges of human civilization will move toward the center and everyone will inevitably suffer the effects of our changing times.

But there is hope. We humans are a unique species. Unlike fish, birds or animals captured by something they cannot understand, we have the human spirit and intellectual capacity to discover the source and causes that entrap us, and with a united will, apply what is necessary to reverse the affects and eventually break free from its bonds.

The secret to resolving our collective dilemmas is simple. First we must recognize that we are all in this together. We must recognize ourselves as one human race. Second have our social leaders learn the skills of true consultation and begin to consult free of self interest, and agree on what standards are best for the entire human race. For example the elimination of the extreme of poverty combined with a minimum standard of living for everyone, a minimum level of security, health care and education. Third, find ways and means of resolving the common complex assortment  of issues, economic, environmental and social, affecting the entire human race.

These simple steps will not be easy to achieve and  will take time, most likely several decades but once begun, even by a few of the world leaders, changes will occur and become visible and like a warm breeze of fresh air, disipitate the mists that block the vision of our magnificent human potential.

Before any of the possible steps can or will be implemented by our world leaders, we, you and I, must make a choice. The choice is this. Do we want this for ourselves and our fellow human beings? If it is, then we ourselves must begin to live accordingly and make the right choices that will help bring about the change we want.  If our individual choice is no. Then we must learn to live with and accept the consequences of that choice.
